The Matrix Awakens Gets a Free Experience This Week on Xbox and PlayStation

There is no doubt that The Matrix was a cultural phenomenon in the early 2000s, giving fans a trilogy of movies, an anthology, a comic book series, and multiple video games. You could not go anywhere without Warner Bros. hammering you over the head with the iconic green code marketing.

Now, in 2021, the franchise is heading back to the big screen with The Matrix: Resurrections, starring returning cast members Keanu Reeves and Carrie Ann Moss, and with that comes a free Unreal Engine 5 experience in The Matrix Awakens, coming to Xbox Series consoles and PlayStation 5 this week.

Epic Games is partnering with Warner Bros., the cast, and series director Lana Wachowski to create the experience and show off what the new software can do. Even though the trailer for the Unreal experience is extremely short, it provides a cool image of Neo in the white void, asking the question, “How do we know what is real,” a quote that fans of the series know all too well. It looks extremely real, even showing the skin inconsistencies, individual hairs in his beard and mustache, and the lighting across his face.

My Take

I am a huge fan of The Matrix. The first movie is easily in my top five favorite movies of all time. It came at a time where we were on the verge of really learning how cool computers and the internet could be. It is one of the most iconic movies of the time. I am really excited for the new movie and am even more intrigued by this new experience. Unreal Engine 5 is just that, unreal.
