This week, Fortnite Chapter 2 came to an end in the one-time event, aptly titled “The End.” Players took on The Cube Queen and finally found out that the voice of The Foundation was, in fact, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson by unmasking the character in a cutscene. The chapter concluded with the island flipping on it’s head, creating a brand new map for players to battle it out for a Victory Royale.
Now in Chapter 3 Season 1, Epic is adding more firepower to the popular Battle Royale with by adding Spider-Man to it’s battle pass along with his black and white suit variants. Marvel’s webcrawler isn’t just a set of skins either, bringing with him his signature swinging ability (which is available for all characters) and a new area of the map with The Daily Bugle sitting front and center. Along with Spider-man, players can look forward to Gears of War’s Marcus Fenix and Kait Diaz as skins with missions tied to those characters as well.
Epic Games is also adding more new features to Fortnite with Chapter 3, including camps, where players can store items and heal up if they don’t have any supplies, harsh weather conditions like storms and snow, and the Victory Crown for those frequent winners.
All we know about the story in Chapter 3 is The Foundation is here and he’s going to continue to be played by The Rock, who is also a skin in the battle pass.
I don’t really play a lot of Fortnite, but from a distance I am a continually surprised fan. Epic has managed to create an incredible universe with a diverse lineup of unique characters and licensed properties that makes what Super Smash Bros. has done look insignificant. It’s truly remarkable that this game that started as a base building survival game has found this much success in their Battle Royale game mode.
