Sega Opening New Studio Lead By Phantasy Star Online 2 Producer

Sega has officially opened a new studio called Sega Sapporo Studio, led by former Phantasy Star Online 2 producer, Takaya Segawa. In a report from Gematsu, this studio will act as a “second development base in Japan” for the company.

In a recent statement translated by Video Games Chronicle, Segawa stated that he wants the studio to “strive to provide a moving experience for customers and to create a studio that values its staff.

“Under the policy of continuing to take on the challenge of creating even more innovative content and providing the world with new and exciting experiences, we will use the know-how that Sega has accumulated over its long history to participate in the development of entertainment that we will present to the world from the attractive city of Sapporo. Sega Sapporo Studio will strive to provide a moving experience to customers, and to create a studio that values its staff.”

Sega has been re-emerging again as one of the premiere Japanese developers, providing popular series like Yakuza, Super Monkey Ball, and Persona via Atlus. They are also aiming to make the next game featuring Sonic the Hedgehog, entitled Sonic Frontiers, a great experience after receiving mediocre critical success for many of his past titles, even delaying the game out of 2021 to “insure quality” for the fans. They have also entered a contract with Microsoft, using their Azure cloud technology to implement into future titles to make “super games.”

What would you like to see out of the new studio? What Sega games are you looking forward to playing? Let us know in the Discord or Facebook group!
