Weird Al is finally getting a biopic to highlight his nearly fifty years of entertainment. The film will star Daniel Radcliffe, of Harry Potter fame, in the “role future generations will remember him for”, according to Weird Al himself. Funny or Die Studios is funding the project while the screenplay is written by Weird Al and Eric Appel, who is also set as the director. The project is planned to begin production in February in L.A. and will stream on the Roku channel at an unannounced date in the future.
The 62 year old funnyman has had a storied career which began on the Dr. Demento radio program in the 1970’s. Since then he has seen his career take him to TV appearances, starred in the movie UHF, and is a Grammy award winner. His parodies of famous songs and music videos have kept Al a prominent pop culture figure through the 80’s and 90’s. Performers such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Coolio are some of the “targets” of Al’s parodies.
