Nintendo announced during Wednesday’s Direct that fan favorite JRPGS Earthbound and Earthbound Beginnings will be finally making their way to Nintendo Switch Online.
Earthbound initially released on the SNES in 1994. Written by famed Japanese humorist Shigesato Itoi, the game was a critical success, but received poor initial sales. It has since been heralded as a cult classic.
Earthbound Beginnings is a English language port of Mother, a JRPG that released in the Famicom console in 1989. Originally planned for a North America release, the game was postponed until a release on the Wii U virtual console in 2015.
Fans have been wanting these games for the Nintendo Switch Online since the service launched in 2019. The service has brought plenty of obscure and Japanese online games and made them available for players once again.
Games have clamored for the Japanese only Mother 3, which released on the GBA in 2006, but Nintendo has been tight-lipped about the game ever since it’s release. Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a little longer to play an official English release of the acclaimed title.
What do you think, will you be playing through these two Earthbound titles?
