Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection Gets Online Play, Virtual Guide

2–3 minutes

Capcom provided further details on its upcoming game Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection as part of its presentation at the Tokyo Game Show on September 15.

Game Director Masakazu Eguchi announced each title in the 10-game collection will include online features such as online battles and chip trading. Capcom’s website specifies the game will not support cross-saves or cross-platform play.

Eguchi also announced a 3D MegaMan.EXE will help players through the game selection screen and gallery, and that he will feature voiced reactions.

MegaMan.EXE will guide you through the new menus, providing fully voiced commentary.

The collection is due out on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC on Steam in 2023. Capcom has yet to announce a specific release date for any platform.

The Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection includes games dating back to 2001 when Capcom first introduced the Battle Network line of titles. The collection will include all mainline games including the dual versions from Mega Man Battle Network 3 onward.

The game is set in the near future in the year 200X when Internet technology has led to the Network Society. People at this time carry around PETs or mobile devices that feature sentient programs called Net Navis. The purpose of these PETs is to help users better enjoy the network.

In the wake of the network’s rise, there is also an influx of cyber crime. Protagonist Lan Hikari and his NetNavi MegaMan.EXE work in tandem to solve these crimes.

Combat in the battle network games takes a tactical approach rather than the action platforming of the standard Mega Man titles.

Fans can purchase the entire collection or buy the collection in two digital-only volumes. Volume one will include the first three titles (four games in total) while the second volume will include the latter three (six games in total).

The tactical role-playing franchise debuted on the Game Boy Advance with all games appearing on the console.

Mega Man Battle Network 1, 2, and 6 were only on the Game Boy Advance while the other three appeared on the Wii U Virtual Console.

This week on Xbox Casuals, Corey Dirrig and Josh Finney discuss Xbox’s continued support and approach to game ownership, including the recently announced disc-to-digital program for supported physical game discs providing digital access and benefits. They talk about why game preservation is more than nostalgia, why players want confidence that their libraries will survive future hardware changes, and how Xbox could build stronger loyalty by respecting past purchases. Corey and Josh also discuss the frustration gamers feel when companies and content creators rely on vague updates instead of clear, useful information. Plus, they look at Gamescom, community expectations, and why meaningful player engagement matters more than flashy marketing. This and more on Xbox Casuals: An Xbox Podcast, part of the Boss Rush Network.
