Mario’s Film Adaptation Appearance Possibly Leaked Via McDonald’s Ad

A user on the ConnorEatsPants discord posted at approximately 12am PST an image that purportedly shows a McDonald’s advertisement that has a picture of Mario as he will look in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie from Illumination.

The discord follower, who goes by the screen name “bob (friend of god)” had stated “yo i work at maccas right” just before sharing what appears to be a picture taken with a camera of the famous plumber in his signature pose of jumping with his fist raised high in the air.

“Maccas” is commonly how Australians refer to popular fast food chain McDonald’s.

Fans have speculated how the Nintendo mascot will appear in the feature film ever since it was first officially announced in January, 2018. Curiosity only grew upon the 2021 revelation that actor Chris Pratt would be voicing the titular plumber.

The controversial original appearance of Sonic the Hedgehog in his own 2020 movie also likely contributed to the debate on what direction Nintendo would take when bringing their famed video game character to the big screen.

Nintendo revealed a teaser poster for the film on just Tuesday, along with the announcement that there will be a special Nintendo Direct specifically for the movie on Thursday, October 6th, at 1:05pm PST.

As for the image itself, it does seem to be legitimate, if only because of the gloves. In the teaser poster, Mario’s gloves have a distinct slit in them that hasn’t appeared in any other known incarnation of the character; the same style of gloves can be seen in the leaked photo.

Both images of Mario have similar style of glove which hasn’t been seen before.

Still, there are many questions about the image’s authenticity. We do not know anything about the user who shared the picture, thus it cannot be proven that they are actually an employee at an Australian McDonald’s restaurant.

The user also didn’t disclose what the advertisement was actually for. While it is expected that there will be plenty of merchandise following the film’s release next Spring, the image shown is at most promotional artwork and not that of a toy.

As for the discord server it was shared on, ConnorEatsPants is a well-known American YouTuber who has collaborated with others such as Dream, Technoblade, and Quackity. As of this writing, he has more than a million followers on Twitter and around 300 thousand subscribers on YouTube.

Fans won’t have to wait long for official confirmation however, as all will be revealed during tomorrow’s exclusive Nintendo Direct.

What do you think? Is the image shared authentic, or is it a well made forgery? Do you like the supposed depiction of Mario, or do you wish it was closer to his in-game appearance? Let us know in the comments below, and on our social media platforms!
