Boss Rush Banter: What’s the Most Annoying Boss Salmonid in Splatoon 3?

Splatoon 3 has delighted fans of Salmon Run, by making this previously timed-exclusive  PvE horde mode available at all times. For people like me, who are obsessed with collecting eggs and splatting Salmonids, it’s been a fun month of ranking up and taking down Boss Salmonids. After putting in over 100 hours in the game since release, primarily in Salmon Run, I’ve begun to form my own opinions about the most challenging waves and exasperating Boss Salmonids. Is there any consensus on the question: what’s the most annoying Boss Salmonid in Splatoon 3?

Most Splatoon 3 Salmon Run enthusiasts might agree that Glowflies are one of the trickiest waves that players confront. However Glowflies are not technically a Boss Salmonid. Things like fog, the changing tides, and the like are out for our purposes today. For this discussion, we’re talking about the standard Boss Salmonids: Scrappers, Stingers, Maws, and the like. Which Boss Salmonid is the most frustrating, most annoying, that causes you to curse silently (or out loud) when they appear?

While all Boss Salmonids can present a challenge depending on the map, weapon you’ve been assigned, or situation you find yourself in, some feel easier to deal with than others. In particular, I find that Flyfish, Steelheads, and Grillers top most people’s list of difficult Boss Salmonids. However, if not dealt with, some other Boss Salmonids like Stingers, Big Shots, Fish Sticks, and Drizzlers can wreak havoc over time or decrease a player’s mobility.

For me personally, while any Boss Salmonid not dealt with, or in a particular situation can cause problems, I believe that Flyfish stand out as the most annoying that warrant being taken out right away. Defeating Flyfish requires patience, positioning, and often teamwork to be done quickly. For these reasons, I define them as the most annoying Boss Salmonid.

What about you? Do you agree or do you think tossing bombs into the Flyfish’s coolers isn’t so hard but taking down Steelheads is trickier? Or does a Steel Eel irk you the most? Let us know in the comments or join the Boss Rush Discord to share your thoughts there!
