The penultimate episode of The Last of Us aired on Sunday night and showed extraordinary growth for the series since Episode 1.
According to Variety, 8.1 million viewers turned to HBO and HBO Max to watch the episode “When We Are In Need.”
That is a 74% increase in viewership from the series premiere, which had an audience of 4.7 million people. Previously Episode 4 was the most viewed episode, with 7.5 million people.
Despite competing with the Oscars on Sunday, March 12, The Last of Us will likely hit a series high when it airs the season 1 finale.
The Last of Us has already received a renewal order for Series 2.
