Boss Rush Banter: Which Region Should the Pokémon Games Revisit?

One of the many great attributes about the Pokémon series are the many regions throughout the franchise.

These worlds can be a lot of fun to roam around as you fill out your Pokédex and explore the various towns and villages. The regions themselves have become largely just as famous as the Pokémon that inhabit them.

And yet, we don’t revisit them very often.

Once we get a taste for the regions, we mostly move onto the next one, leaving it behind with few options for revising.

So, which region should the Pokémon games revisit?

There are a plethora of ways to revisit any given region. Pokémon Legends: Arceus provided a unique way to return to the the Sinnoh Region from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.

This way allowed players to visit the Sinnoh Region, called Hisui Region, in a pre-settled state. This could be a fantastic approach to exploring various other regions. I personally would love to see the Johto Region in this take.

In that same vein, we could always get a sequel game to an older version similar to Pokémon Black 2 and White 2. This isn’t a typical path for Pokémon but could be a fun route to go.

Another great way to return is what Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal did with the Kanto Region. After defeating the Johto gym leaders and the Elite Four, players could return to the Kanto Region from Pokémon Red and Blue.

What was cool about this approach is we could see how much had changed in the three years since the events of the first generation of games. If this was the case, I’d love to revisit the Hoenn Region from Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald to see how the world is doing since its near-apocalyptic event.

And then there’s the matter of remasters and remakes. The most recent being Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Game Freak seems to slowly march along at developing these remakes and remasters so it may only be a matter of time before we return to these older games.

If the trend continues, Pokémon Black and White, and their sequels, are next on the list. These games were set in the Unova Region.

There are so many great ways to return to previous Pokémon regions. Some may even prefer just booting up their old games as a way to return to these past regions.

Regardless, it’d be nice to see more opportunities to return to these past regions and see what has become of them.

So what about you? Which Pokémon region would you like to return to in the future? Is there a specific way you’d like to return? Let us know in the comments below or head over to our Discord channel to join the conversation.
