Crowdfunding for Lackadaisy Season One Met With Smashing Success

Lackadaisy season one has been fully funded.

Lacakadaisy, created by Tracy J Butler, launched a crowdfunding campaign on Backerkit to turn the cult classic webcomic into a full-fledged show. Backers helped reach the goal amount within 12 hours.

The story is set in 1927. A speakeasy by the name of Lackadaisy struggles to get by serving up what barely passes as alcohol. The owner, Mitzi, sends out her rag-tag team of rum-runners to keep the speakeasy stocked. Stained with a 1920’s aesthetic and drawing loosely from steampunk inspirations, Lackadaisy, utilizes original songs, fluid animation, and pulse-pounding chases.

Even though this project is fully funded, they are still accepting funds. As of the time of publication they are 27 days left. You can still “tip your bartender” over on Backerkit, if you wish.

I, for one, am excited. By this point it might not surprise you that I like to cover all things anthropomorphic animal related. I appreciate such media because it can expound upon the human condition in ways, ironically, humans cannot. Lackadaisy is no different. As the title might suggest, I believe this series will inject new life and zest into the animation community. If the pilot I covered back in this article is a preview of what Iron Circus Animation has in store, I have an optimistic outlook on things to come.

What are your thoughts on Lackadaisy? Were you one of the 9.7 million people to watch the pilot? Have you read the webcomic? Let us know over on the Boss Rush Discord.
