Reactions to the News
Most interesting for fans of Aliens: Fireteam Elite is the last portion of the press release. In it, Cold Iron Studios again mentions the development of a new game; however, given that the context of this particular announcement is specific to Aliens: Fireteam Elite, it seems highly likely that this game in development is a sequel rather than an altogether new IP.
The release specifically states that the “new title” will “build on the success of Aliens: Fireteam Elite,” a new game for “fans to sink their teeth into.” While this is certainly still speculation, the context of this announcement and its careful wording makes the possibility more likely that a full sequel to AFE is in development. Until Cold Iron Studios offers clarification, all fans can do for the moment is speculate.
It’s also worth noting that the studio has been paying attention to the passion and dialogue from the AFE fanbase. While the community is relatively small, fans of Aliens: Fireteam Elite feel passionately about the game, noting how closely it recreates the atmosphere of the 1986 film Aliens and how faithfully the game honors the lore of the franchise. That the AFE community has been so dedicated seems to have made a difference with regards to the goals and focus of Cold Iron Studios.
