Point Defense Game Mode and Other New Features

In previous Q&A sessions on the Aliens: Fireteam Elite Discord, developers said that “players who enjoy Horde mode will love [Point Defense].” Based upon the description in today’s press release, this looks to be true. The new game mode challenges players to work in teams of three to protect, repair, and hold three strategic areas as waves of Xenomorphs assault the positions. As with Horde Mode, players will be able to purchase consumables via Fabrication Points during the mission.

The official storyline for Point Defense is as follows:

“We’re seeing an increase in xeno activity at the LV-895 ruins. Swarms are drawn by three Engineer devices. When they activate, xenos attack them. We believe those Engineer “Objects” stabilize the ground beneath the ruins. The moon is now entering a period of geologic instability —if we don’t keep them running, the ruins will collapse.”

The lifetime stats feature is another change that fans have specifically been asking. The game relies heavily on replayability, and there’s currently no way to check specific stats or compare with friends. This is yet further evidence that Cold Iron Studios is trying hard to listen to fans and taking nothing for granted as a small studio.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite Coming to Xbox Game Pass

As part of today’s press release, Cold Iron Studios announced major news about Aliens: Fireteam Elite:

With this release on December 14th, AFE will also become available to all Xbox Game Pass subscribers on both Xbox and Windows 10. Cross play will also be available between all Xbox and PC players who install via the Microsoft Store.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite Press Release

After reports that the game was all but dead, many fans demanded action from Cold Iron Studios to bring in more players and sustain the life of the game. While there is still no date set for cross play between PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam, allowing Xbox and PC gamers to play together via installation from the Microsoft Store is a step in the right direction. Putting the game for free on Game Pass will also bring in a substantial number of players.
