World Wrestling Entertainment and 2K Games have unveiled details of the upcoming WWE 2K24, including cover stars.

This year’s iteration, which will release March 5, will reflect three distinct covers with different stars depending on the version purchase. Standard Edition will showcase Cody Rhodes while the Deluxe Edition will feature Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair.

The special third edition is called the 40 Years of Wrestlemania Edition and will feature numerous WWE stars from the last 40 years.

This year marks the 40th anniversary since WWE began its Wrestlemania premium live event. This year’s Showcase Mode will feature top moments from the past 39 iterations of the event. Wrestlemania 40 is slated for April 6-7.

WWE 2K24 will also include new features including several new match gimmicks. These include guest referees as well as casket, gauntlet, and ambulance matches.

MyRise mode will include two storylines, one for both the men’s and the women’s divisions. Many other similar features from WWE 2K23 will return.

Rhodes has featured prominently throughout WWE programming this year. He lost at Wrestlemania 39 to the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, but has quickly risen to be the top babyface (good guy) in the company.

Ripley is having a career year as she won the Smackdown Women’s Championship from Charlotte Flair at Wrestlemania 39. WWE renamed the title the Women’s World Championship and Ripley as successfully defended it throughout 2023. She is a member of the villainous Judgement Day faction.

Belair has been a force since defeating Sasha Banks for the then-Raw Women’s Championship at Wrestlemania 37. She has positioned herself as one of the top babyfaces on the women’s side, winning and losing the title several times.

WWE 2K24 will be available for PlayStation 5 and 4; Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One; and PC via Steam.

Reactions to the News

It is so exciting to see the three cover stars announced. Each one is deserving and has really made a name for themselves. Ripley, in particular, has just had an astronomical rise this past year.

I am really excited for this year’s Showcase Mode. In past years, it has followed the career of the cover star, but this year it’s highlighting top Wrestlemania matches.

Some of WWE’s best matches are at Wrestlemania so this will provide a great history lesson for some and a fun way to revisit for others.

Of the new match gimmicks, I think guest referee is what intrigues me the most. Throughout WWE history, these have been a great storytelling device that throws a fun wrinkle into an otherwise standard match. The idea that you can now pick one and decide what they do is exciting.

Casket matches are also a fun addition. These are a staple of The Undertaker during his earlier years so it’ll be a blast booking these yourself.

All in all, this year’s iteration of WWE 2K should be a lot of fun.
