TV shows are a unique form of media.
Unlike movies, TV shows run for years at a time over numerous episodes. This means a show can ebb and flow over the years, offering inconsistent output at times.
This concept inevitably leads to people having a least favorite part of their favorite TV show. That’s not something that’s common in other media under the same name unless it’s a built out universe.
So what’s your least favorite season of your favorite show?
My favorite show of all-time is Lost. Just everything about that show was fun and enjoyable. It came at a time when I started truly appreciating TV and it became my favorite form of media.
It’s a show that I can comfortably say I enjoyed from start to finish. Even with that being the case, there was one season that did feel less compared to the others (pun intended). Season 5 is probably my least favorite.
Let me clarify and say I did enjoy it. I just don’t think I enjoyed it as much as the other five seasons.
Lost could get weird as it blended science-fiction with religion, a tension manifested as a plot thread. Season 5 is where it seemed to get its weirdest as time travel became a main plot point.

Time travel was somewhat introduced in the fourth season in the episode The Constant and there were minor hints at it earlier. That all exploded in season 5, making it one that just feels out of place.
Again, I did enjoy it and it was fun to learn more about the Dharma Initiative, but if I’m being honest, it’s my least favorite.
Another example of a least favorite season in a favorite show is The Office. As is the case with most people, season 8 is my least favorite.
It has a few fun plotlines like the Florida trip, but it is the least The Office-feeling season of the series. Season 9 can be a bit of a struggle, but with show creator Greg Daniels returning, it at least found its voice once again.
I’ve had a new sense of appreciation for season 8 after listening to Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey’s podcast The Office Ladies. That said, they both acknowledge the difficulties of that season.
Everyone is going to have different tastes, both in TV shows and least-favorite seasons. It’s interesting because what some may not like will be the favorite of others.
