Boss Rush Banter: Is the New Endless Ocean Going Deep Enough or Will We Be Left in the Shallows?

I have been sitting, ocean side for awhile now hoping to get a chance to dip my flippers into another Endless Ocean game. I enjoyed the originals and since then have enjoyed games like them. Some of which had some great improvements in gameplay and exploration. This is all about to change with an upcoming new entry in the series, but where does it sit on the depth charts of quality and quantity?

Recently we were treated with a Nintendo Partner Showcase which had plenty of games to unveil and reveal. The last element to the showcase was a new entry to a Wii series. Endless Ocean: Luminous was shown and after many times of me viewing and reviewing the trailer I have a few questions that have me wondering will it sink out of existence or float to the top of the food chain?

In the trailer we see plenty of water and fish as expected in a game like this, so that of course is a great start. The location is the Veiled Sea which changes every dive so you can encounter all sorts of new species. You also can explore with up to 30 other players online offering social interactions and sharing of discoveries. Over 500 creatures to discover from real-life, extinct, and even mythical species. All this arriving on May 2, 2024.

Now that we have the knowns out of the way, my mind gravitates to the unknowns because I fear what this game may not include or at least do well. My first concern is that this game may push too hard towards the online multiplayer aspect and at the same time give us minimal ways to interact and make the game feel out of place or underwhelming. How can they make this game meaningful for multiplayer and feel fresh and exciting for single player experience as well? A single player’s experience with a decent story is what I worry about most and from past experiences from this series I would like to have all new and old aspects done well. I want this game to bask in the sun of glory. How will they accomplish this?

Have you played past Endless Ocean games before? What did you think of the trailer for Endless Ocean Luminous? Will you be playing this when it comes out? Let us know your thoughts.
