The promise of 100 heroes is becoming more tangible.
A new trailer for Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes gave a more in-depth look at the various characters in the upcoming turn-based RPG. The almost five-minute trailer showed off gameplay, voice acting, along with a brief overview of numerous character.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is the creation of Suikoden creator Yoshitaka Murayama, who died earlier this year. Rabbit and Bear Studios is developing the game, which will release on April 23, while 505 Games is publishing.
The trailer highlighted the three main characters — Nowa, Seign Kesling, and Marisa — and some of their closest allies. It also showcased numerous other characters that will relate into the story but don’t seem close to the main heroes.
While many of the characters were new, there were some that those who played Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising would recognize, including the three main characters of CJ, Garoo, and Isha.
As far as gameplay, the trailer showed off combat, voice acting and interactions, mini-games, and overall shots of the world and art design.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes has earned the label of “spiritual successor to Suikoden series. Murayama was the director of Suikoden and Suikoden II before leaving Konami shortly before the release of Suikoden III.
The game garnered donations through the crowdfunding site Kickstarter, drawing in $4.51 million from 46,307 backers. It also surpassed its stretch goal after drawing in $500,000 within the first few hours.
505 Games announced the game at E3 in 2021 with a release window set for October 2022. Several delays pushed it back to its current release date.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes will release on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S (including Game Pass).

Reacting to the News
I haven’t played any Suikoden games so I didn’t have much attachment to this game, but I have always been interested. The promise of 100 characters is lofty but had me intrigued.
I recently played Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising and fell in love with the art style and the world. It dialed up the hype I had for Hundred Heroes and this trailer pushed it to new heights.
This game look absolutely gorgeous and one that could rival Square Enix’s 2D-HD look. Seeing all the characters, however, is what sold me completely.
There is a lot of heart in these characters. That was the case with Rising and it seems to have carried over to Hundred Heroes. From what I’ve seen, the voice actors seem to add a lot to the characters and it was fun to seem some previously silent characters from Rising now have voices.
I am ready for this game to release and I know many other RPG fans are too. Murayama’s passing will help solidify the legacy of this game as fans seem to care about him deeply.
Fans of turn-based RPGs are in for a treat and this trailer shows why.
