Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is the spiritual successor to Suikoden, which was a game last seen on the Playstation 2 (Suikoden V) in 2008. The team that worked on the game last has since fragmented, but fans were clamoring for a continuation to the story.
Let’s introduce our new heroes that could help make that happen, with a Kickstarter video put out last summer 2020.
The series is very much alive thanks to much of the old development team returning, a successful campaign to raise funds for their new studio Rabbit and Bear Studios, and with the help of publisher 505 Games . As part of the Microsoft & Bethesda Games Showcase, they have new gameplay footage to share, and a release date! Well, kind of a release date…
A beautiful 2D sprite aesthetic mixed with fully 3D backgrounds (much like Octopath Traveler) and enemies in old-school JRPG style action. It has 100 recruitable characters, so the title is accurate. Expect this game to come out in–2023!? Wow.
Also, at the end of the trailer they also showcased Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising, which is an action RPG that, according to their Steam page, features town building mechanics, fast paced combat, and an important backstory to the Hundred Heroes cast of characters.
The game is expected to hit Xbox One, Series S/X (and on Game Pass Day One), PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and the Switch (or whatever releases after the Switch).
Excited? Well, temper that excitement because you’ll be waiting for a long while. What games are you going to play while you wait in anticipation? Let us know in the comments.
