Fans of Invincible won’t have to wait long for the third season.
Prime Video recently dropped a teaser trailer for the upcoming third season, which revealed Feb. 6, 2025. This is a welcome change of pace from the years-long hiatus between the first two season.
As exciting as the premiere date was, it was the way Prime Video chose to highlight its new season that makes it memorable. In short, the roughly two-and-a-half-minute trailer took a meta approach to highlight the show’s comedy and humanity.
Invincible is the perfect show for those who love adult animation, have superhero fatigue, and love alternative looks at the genre. It blends emotion, comedy, and action into a neat package.
In short, it’s the cure for the common superhero.
What makes this trailer so good is it doesn’t show any action. Rather, it focuses on two characters sitting in a diner having a conversation about Mark Grayson (Invincible) returning to action.
While the trailer may seem like it is referring to what’s happening inside the show, it’s referring more to the outside of the show with a clever fourth-wall break.
The moment that really catches you off guard is when Cecil tells Mark to not take a four-month break in the middle of saving the world, referring to season 2’s despised midseason break.
Invincible does a lot well, including its unique approach to the genre and its emotional storytelling. What I believe is often overlooked is how funny the show can be at times. This trailer reminds everyone of that comedy.
I think it’s really telling that the first bit of Invincible news we get in months is layered in comedy.
Prime could’ve showed a bloody trailer about the upcoming storylines including the inevitable shift to Mark’s blue suit. It could’ve highlighted the budding romance between Mark and Eve.
It didn’t and I think that’s because Prime wanted to remind everyone of what the show does so well. In part, that’s its underrated comedy, but I think it’s deeper than that.
Many superheroes don’t tend to have the best personalities on screen and many feel larger than life. That’s clearly by design and something both Marvel and DC lean into heavily.
Invincible is different because of how much it focuses on the human side of superheroes. Whether that’s Mark coping with the trauma of his father’s abuse or more light-hearted moments such as Mark attending a comic-con, Invincible humanizes its characters in such a unique way.
That brings us back to the trailer.
Invincible always had a connection with the audience and that’s what makes it so endearing. This trailer highlights that because the characters are saying everything we, as fans, are saying.
This only works when the audience can relate to the show, which is what the trailer highlights. It such a comedic way, this short trailer reminded fans of how good the show really is and has us excited for it to return.
It’s all a rather ingenious piece of marketing that I believe deserves its props. It also means Invincible is back and we can finally begin wildly speculating.
