During the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct today, the Japanese video game publisher revealed that many Nintendo Switch 1 titles will have a new Switch 2 version, which will not only include improved visuals and performance, but will support features exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2. Included in these titles are The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, and more. Gamers that already own these games on the Switch 1 can purchase an upgrade for an additional cost.
What was not mentioned during the Direct however is that a host of Switch 1 titles will receive a Switch 2 upgrade for free. This is likely due to these games not incorporating substantial Switch 2 features, such as the new chat or camera features, although that is pure speculation.
Some amazing Switch titles will be available for the free upgrade option, too. On the official website, Nintendo lists the following games as receiving a free Switch 2 upgrade:
- ARMS
- Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
- Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics
- The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
- The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
- Game Builder Garage
- New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
- Pokémon Scarlet
- Pokémon Violet
- Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain
This is exciting news for those that already own the aforementioned games, as they can expect improvements to their gaming experience on the Switch 2 console free of charge. Even if the updates are simply graphical and performance based, this could easily add to the enjoyment these exciting titles already provide.
