Monster Hunter Wilds, Capcom’s most recent addition in the Monster Hunter series, has been out for almost three months now. Fans are starting to speculate about what kind of post-launch content might be planned as Capcom has never been known to shy away from crossovers. From predictable collabs like Street Fighter to surprising third-party partnerships like The Witcher 3 and Assassin’s Creed, the series has a long history of bringing these different video game worlds and somehow making them click.
I thought to compile four potential collaborations that I predict may feature in Monster Hunter: Wilds. Basing my theories from previous collabs as well as upcoming Capcom titles, I’m fairly confident that at least a couple of these predictions end up right on the money.
4. Devil May Cry (Anime)
Devil May Cry has previously shown up in not one but two mainline Monster Hunter titles (not including the spin-offs it’s also appeared in like Frontier and Explore) as cosmetic items that make either you or your trusty Palico resemble the devil-hunter for hire himself.
After a brief drought of Devil May Cry content, the new Netflix Devil May Cry anime took the internet by storm. Introducing new fans to the franchise and reigniting the flames of old ones, it would be a missed opportunity for Capcom to not once again bring over their beloved IP over onto Monster Hunter: Wilds.
3. Final Fantasy XVI
Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV and, to everyone’s astonishment, Tekken 8 have just recently collaborated with Final Fantasy XVI, the most recent entry in the long-running JRPG series.
Monster Hunter is no stranger to the Final Fantasy franchise. Following the same logic with Devil May Cry, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this beloved Square Enix IP make an appearance in Monster Hunter:Wilds. With one previous mainline title collaboration and multiple spin-offs, Final Fantasy would feel right at home when returning to Monster Hunter
2. Okami
During the 2024 Game Awards, a remake of the beloved cult-classic Okami was announced. The PS2 Capcom title having previously collaborated with Monster Hunter in multiple mainline titles, the remake of Okami eventually making some sort of appearance in Monster Hunter: Wild’s is short of guaranteed.
The Monster Hunter: Rise and Okami event specifically felt like a crossover meant to be. Your rideable companion in Rise, the “Palamute“, can get a cosmetic that gives it the look of Amaterasu (the main protagonist of Okami). A similar event can work with the ridable companion featured in Wilds, the “Seikrits“.
1. Onimusha
Onimusha, the classic action-adventure PS2 title that re-defined sword fighting in video games, has only ever appeared in a Monster Hunter Frontier. Though its only appearance being a spin-off of the Monster Hunter series, there’s no doubt in my mind that this collab will happen.
A new title in the Onimusha series is on its way, and what better way for Capcom to celebrate the return of yet another cult-classic by featuring it in Monster Hunter: Wilds. Though most likely will be cosmetic add-ons, the collab would still bring over new sets of eyes onto the Onimusha series and hopefully draw them in for the release of the it’s new title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
No matter what collaboration happens first or if any of the ones I’ve listed happen at all, it’s only a matter of time before we see familiar faces and franchises crossing over onto the the critically acclaimed monster hunting game yet again.
