September 12th, 2025–Nintendo is revealing an hour-long showcase of updates and announcements for the Switch and Switch 2. Gamers have been eagerly awaiting for a proper Direct after several other showcases: a Kirby Air Riders Direct and Indie Direct Showcase in August, and a Partner Direct in late July. Despite the Switch 2 launch in June, we’ve seen only a trickle of first-party game releases and news.
The showcase kicked off with Shigeru Miyamoto discussing Mario’s 40th anniversary. He talked about various things such as the Nintendo Museum and their role in the Kyoto Marathon next year. There were also several game announcements, but the major announcement was the next Mario movie.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will release April 2026 and will be considered the main event to celebrate the franchises’ 40th anniversary. The teaser trailer was minimal, featuring a snoozing Mario and a butterfly that makes its way past Princess Peach’s castle and into space.
The movie will feature Mario and friends’ adventure that extends to space and beyond. Miyamoto invited Illumination’s Chris Meledandri who expressed the continued commitment to make us Nintendo fans (of all ages) proud. Pratt will reprise his role as voicing the titular plumber along with other major cast members, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, and much more. There were no new cast announcements at this time, and Miyamoto asked us to wait a little while longer for more details. Stay tuned for more information!
Other Mario related news includes Mario Galaxy and Mario Galaxy 2, a new Mario sports game–Mario Tennis Fever, Super Mario Bros. Wonder Switch 2 Edition, and a brand-new Yoshi title– Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. If that wasn’t enough, there will be two Mario Galaxy themed amiibo.

Here are their trailers below:
