There are times in my writing career here at Boss Rush Network when I become fixated — I mean passionate — about a certain game or topic. For a while it was anything Legend of Zelda, then it was anything horror like the latest Resident Evil title, and now it’s Pokémon Pokopia. After mainlining the game, rolling credits, and chipping away at Palette Town, I found myself craving DLC. It’s not just a selfish thing, a Pokémon Pokopia DLC may be good for many reasons.
There are currently four biomes in the Pokemon Pokopia, five if you include Palette Town, each with their own challenges, flora, and landscape. There’s a lot more you can do once you gain all abilities and recipes to keep your attention in these areas; however, DLC can come easily to a game like Pokopia by simply adding more biomes. I would love to see a winter-esq landscape, desert, and/or a swamp. If additional biomes are too large, another idea to expand would be with additional Dream Islands via dolls and Drifloon.
Biomes aside, let’s also look at opportunities regarding the Pokémon themselves. Pokemon Pokopia have around 300 Pokémon to fill your Pokedex. It’s quite an impressive number; however, there are over 1000 Pokémon in the entire franchise, so there are near-endless opportunities to create brand new habitats and discover more Pokémon. Even if full DLC doesn’t come out, it is highly likely there will be timed opportunities like Hoppip, who shows up and sells unique items not otherwise available in the game. Whenever you boot up Pokopia, I’d get a notice that a “Pokémon is the talk of the town”. So, if we don’t get new Pokémon via additional habitats, visiting Pokémon ‘salesmen’ would be a lot of fun. They could bring in seasonal items to further decorate your homes. In addition to this, the genre also lends itself to additional content over time just like with Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Lastly, many Pokémon games receive some form of DLC, so from a historical perspective, it just also makes sense. While Pokémon Pokopia is a spin-off from the mainline titles, all the aforementioned reasons screams DLC.
With that said, perhaps Pokopia DLC would keep the Switch 2 afloat until Nintendo announces titles for the remainder of 2026 and beyond. Pokémon Champions just released, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream will release later this week on the 16th, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book arrives in May. While Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave has a general 2026 date, we have no pipeline for the second half of the year. If Nintendo needs more time to tide fans over, a Pokopia DLC would do the trick. Game Freak and Koei Tecmo can bundle up on large DLC with several additional biomes, more Pokémon, and more mysteries to unearth about the humans or have a scheduled release of several smaller updates.
