Boss Rush Banter: What Are Your Favorite NES Games From Nintendo Switch Online’s Library?

One quality I love about the Nintendo Switch is the NSO membership plans come with retro consoles and a satisfying library. I’m interested to hear everyone’s favorite NES titles from the NSO library. Here are five of my favorites!

Ninja Gaiden

Ninja Gaiden is a very punishing side-scrolling game, and when it comes to gameplay, this game relies on being quick and making the right moves to stay alive. Although an extremely hard game, there was so much satisfaction upon completing that level you’ve been trying so hard to beat!

Super Mario Bros.

One of the most iconic franchises for Nintendo, this classic Super Mario Bros. can continue to be remembered and enjoyed in the NSO library. It seems every generation of children got to experience a piece of Mario, and this is where it started for myself. Super Mario Bros. had a huge impact on my love for 2D side scrolling games throughout the years. This Mario game had great levels with fun power ups well known today like the mushroom to grow Mario stronger or pick up a star and become invincible for a short period of time. Not only was this game a blast and sometimes challenging, you also get to experience playing with another player who can be Luigi! This franchise has been a highlight for so many people and will continue to rise in the future for many others.

Kirby’s Adventure

If you’re a fan of the Mario Bros. games, you may enjoy games like Kirby’s Adventure. Kirby vacuums enemies up with his mouth and gains their abilities to use to fight. There are over twenty abilities for Kirby to consume like freeze, fireball, and laser!

The Legend of Zelda

This game holds a big place in my heart container. The Legend of Zelda was the first game I ever played, and this was the biggest influence on my life as a gamer. This top down adventure action game is a blast, and I love exploring the world and taking on each dungeon for a satisfying challenge. The Legend of Zelda is the best 8-bit RPG I’ve ever played, and I will cherish those memories I had forever.

Super Mario Bros. 3

Super Mario Bros. 3 is my favorite NES game of all time. This game keeps up and looks too good for a NES game! In this Mario title there were awesome suits like the frog suit which was so much fun to hop around in levels and the hammer suit was also great so you could toss hammers at enemies. The raccoon tail was another great addition to Mario Bros. 3, and flying through levies was a blast! There was also a fun slot machine that would give you extra lives if the right icons lined up. Reserve menu items were also a game changer, allowing you to save any extra power ups and use when you need that item.

  1. Haven’t played too many in the NES library yet but I always go back to games like Super Mario Bros 2 (usa), kid Icarus, and startropics.

  2. Zelda II for me. That rewind feature was a game changer. I played it in the 80s and 90s but the limitations to the game were simply too frustrating. (Loss of progress was brutal). Between the save states and the rewind feature, this game has actually elevated into the top 10 for me as far as Zelda games.
