Picard, Lower Decks Trailers Highlight Star Trek Panel at Comic-Con

Star Trek continued to build out its universe with several key announcements during day three at Comic-Con International.

The Star Trek Universe panel provided a teaser trailer for the third and final season of Picard, including shots of many of the original cast from Star Trek: The Next Generation. There was also a trailer for season three of Star Trek: Lower Decks.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which recently wrapped up its first season, will cross over with Lower Decks during its second season.

Picard, starring Patrick Stewart as the eponymous Jean-Luc Picard, explores the former captain’s life in the years after The Next Generation. The show has previously featured Brent Spiner (Data), Jonathan Frakes (Will Riker), and Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi) as well as Voyager’s Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine), but season three will look to reunite the entire cast.

Some of the actors featured in the trailer include Levar Burton (Geordi La Forge), Michael Dorn (Worf), and Gates McFadden (Beverly Crusher) alongside Stewart, Frakes, Sirtis, and Ryan.

The final season of Picard is set to air in 2023 on Paramount+.

Lower Decks is an adult animation show on Paramount+ that follows a group of low-ranking members on the starship Cerritos. Season three is set to begin on Aug. 25.

The trailer gave fans a taste of what’s to come in season three, including a cameo from the Deep Space Nine station. Executive producer Mike McMahan confirmed there will be an episode in season three dedicated to the iconic space station.

Star Trek has quietly established itself on Paramount+ with a host of different series in a similar way to what Star Wars has done on Disney+. I thoroughly enjoyed the first season of Picard. Star Trek: The Next Generation was a staple in my house growing up, so it’s fun to see the cast reunite.
