This year’s San Diego Comic-Con was a unique gathering.
In the wake of the actor’s and writer’s strikes, many of the large studios opted to skip this year’s comic-con, forcing a lighter buffet of panels. Still, the convention saw many reveals and announcements that offer insight into the future content offerings in the entertainment world.
Venom Looms Large During New Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Trailer
Insomniac Games unveiled a new trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which is set to release on Oct. 20 on the PlayStation 5. Venom and the symbiote were hallmarks of the trailer while viewers also got a look at the story and how the villains fit in.
Along with the trailer, Sony also announced a Spider-Man 2-themed PlayStation 5 and DualSense Controller.
The Walking Dead Further Fills Out Universe with Spinoff Information
The main series of The Walking Dead may be over, but AMC is leaning heavily into its spinoffs. The studio showcased trailers for both The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, which centers on Rick and Michonne.
Along with the trailers, AMC also announced both The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and The Walking Dead: Dead City will get second seasons. Daryl Dixon‘s first season is set to premiere on Sept. 10 while Dead City just wrapped its first season.
Second Trailer for The Marvels Debuts
Marvel Studios released its newest trailer for The Marvels, which featured Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris). The movie will hit theaters Nov. 10.
Borderlands Movie Lands Official Release Date
The live-action adaption of Borderlands will hit theaters Aug. 9, 2024. Lionsgate Films made the announcement almost eight years after the project was initially revealed.
Eli Roth is directing and writing the project. The movie is based on an action RPG and first-person shooter game of the same name.
John Wick Prequel Gets Official Release Date on Peacock
The Continental, which is a three-part prequel to the John Wick movies, will premiere on Sept. 22 on Peacock. The series will release weekly until Oct. 6.
Harley Quinn Season 4 Gets Trailer Ahead of Season Premiere
Harley Quinn is set to debut its fourth season on July 27 on Max and Warner Bros. Discovery released a trailer a week ahead of the premiere. The trailer focused on the dynamic between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy as they navigate their professional and personal lives.
Pokémon Ultimate Journeys Heads West
The final episodes of Ash Ketchum’s journey alongside Pikachu will air on Netflix on Sept. 8. The series has already aired in Japan, but hasn’t made its way to the West in English yet. These episodes will consist of the final arc of Ketchum’s journey to become a Pokémon master.
Ubisoft Offers Behind the Scenes Look at Star Wars Outlaws
Star Wars Outlaws is an upcoming open-world game centered on a time between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Developers and designers offered insight into their experiences crafting out the galaxy and creating the first Star Wars open-world game.
The game will center on Kay Vess, an outlaw trying to make her way during the height of the Galactic Civil War. There is no official release date other than 2024.
Paramount Provides Updates on Three Star Trek Shows
Star Trek: Lower Decks, Strange New Worlds, and Star Trek: Discovery all received updates during the panel.
The fourth season of Lower Decks is slated to release Sept. 7 on Paramount Plus. The company also provided an update on the final season of Discovery while also confirming there will be a musical episode in Strange New Worlds that will crossover with Lower Decks. The musical episode will air on Aug. 3.
DC to Make Animated Movies Based on Iconic Comics from the 1980s
The next two animated movies from DC will be Crisis on Infinite Earths and Watchmen. Both comic series released in the 1980s and were some of DC’s biggest stories at the time. There is no official release date.
Release Date for Second Season of Invincible Unveiled
Amazon Studios revealed that Invincible‘s second season will premiere on Nov. 3 on Prime Video. The first season originally aired in early 2021 and Amazon had renewed it for two more season prior to the season finale.
Invincible centers on teenager Mark Grayson, who is the son of Earth’s most powerful superhero. Grayson begins to develop powers and learns from his father on how to use them.
The Boys spinoff GenV Gets Premiere Date
Amazon Studios set the release date for its college-themed show GenV as Sept. 29 with the seasons final slated for Nov. 3. The show will center on young adult superheroes that attend Godolkin University School of Crimefighting, which Voight International runs.
