Venom is here.
Insomniac Games unveiled a new trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 that featured a better look at the story as well as villains Venom and Kraven the Hunter. The game is set to arrive on Oct. 20 exclusively on the PlayStation 5.
The trailer, which debuted during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, highlighted the precarious balance between the personal and superhero lives of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales. The game is supposed to be 9-10 months after the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which takes place about a year after the first game.
It also added additional narrative points such as J. Jonah Jameson returning to the Daily Bugle and Morales confronting Martin Li/Mister Negative over the death of his father.
Voice actor Tony Todd will bring Venom to life in the game. Todd spoke during the panel about the significance of the symbiote.
The panel also discussed additional gameplay elements to the game, such as the addition of Brooklyn and Queens to the map. These additions will include Aunt May’s house, among other Marvel landmarks.
Insomniac Games also used its time to unveil a Spider-Man 2-themed PlayStation 5 and Dualsense controller, both of which will open for preorders shortly.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 continues its march to release as this trailer follows one in a previous PlayStation Showcase. The past trailer focused heavily on gameplay and combat along with unveiling the villains. Marvel also unveiled a free comic book that helped bridge the gap between the two Spider-Man games.
Reacting to the News
This year’s Comic-Con is in a unique position given the writer and actor strikes going on. This left Insomniac Games to fill a void as this panel took place on the show’s biggest stage.
Insomniac Games rose to the occasion.
This trailer got me more excited for the game as I really enjoyed the first Marvel’s Spider-Man. The story looks interesting and the symbiote is always a fun road to travel down.
What makes it more fun is the character interactions. Seeing Parker still hesitant to train Morales is fascinating and relatable. So is Morales not forgiving the man that killed his father and having the power to do something.
I always love when a video game provides a good narrative and based on the trailer, I think Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 looks to be heading in the right direction.
