Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Prequel Comic Releasing for Free Comic Book Day

Word has arrived surrounding Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Marvel and Sony are teaming up to release a comic book this weekend that will serve as the prequel to the upcoming release. While there is no official release date for the PlayStation sequel, Sony does have plans for a Fall arrival, according to its website.

The comic book, however, is set to release May 6 in local comic book stores across the U.S. It will also be available for download on the Marvel Unlimited app. A worldwide release is slated for a later time.

Readers can expect the story to center on Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Mary-Jane Watson as they handle the various aspects of their lives. These include school, journalism careers, and the fact that there are two Spider-Men in town.

The Hood is slated to be the main villain in the comic book. This villain’s appearance will bolster the trio’s questioning of whether magic is real.

Christos Gage, who wrote Marvel’s Spider-Man and other Spider-Man comics, will author this issue while Ig Guara will provide the art.

This announcement came alongside the reveal that players can purchase via the PlayStation Store the PlayStation 5 remaster of Marvel’s Spider-Man as a standalone item. This became available May 4, about 24 hours after the initial announcement. This version was previously only available to those with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition.

Sony is offering an upgrade program where owners of any version of Marvel’s Spider-Man can upgrade to the PS5 remaster for $10. This does not apply to those who have the game through PS Plus. For those who just want to buy the PS5 remaster, the game will be available for $49.99 via the PlayStation Store.

The comic book and remaster purchase come on the heels of Sony announcing it would remove Marvel’s Spider-Man on May 16 from the Game Catalog on the Extra and Premium tiers of PS Plus.

Marvel’s Spider-Man released on the PlayStation 4 in 2018 while the PS5 remaster came out in 2020. This action-adventure from Insomniac Games is an open-world journey throughout the New York City borough of Manhattan.
