Xbox Series X/S owners and Overwatch players just recently got a free next-gen update, according to a patch notes post on the Blizzard forums.
The update features a slew of performance enhancement options for Series X/S owners. If you enter into the options menu, you can select one of three graphics modes; Resolution, Balanced, and Frame Rate.
- Resolution: 1440p @ 60Hz for Series S owners, and 4K @ 60Hz for Series X owners. Prioritizes high resolution, but at the cost of image quality and performance.
- Balanced: 1080p @ 60Hz for Series S owners, and 1440p @ 60Hz for Series X owners. Prioritizes image quality over higher resolution.
- Frame Rate: 1080p @ 120Hz for Series S owners, and 1440p @ 120Hz for Series X owners. Prioritizes higher frame rate (120 FPS) over image quality and resolution.
Keep in mind of course in order to utilize the Frame Rate option you’ll need a 120 Hz capable television, or one with a variable refresh rate! All modes allow you to play the game at 60 FPS.
Unfortunately for PS5 fans, there’s no news on whether they plan to receive a similar upgrade, with Blizzard making no comments at the time of this writing.
Do you still play Overwatch? Are you excited for the enhancements? Let us know in the comments.
