Publisher Wizards of the Coast has announced via their Twitter that the long awaited game Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance now has a release date of June 22nd and is coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. The game is being developed by Tuque Games.
Dark Alliance is a spiritual successor to Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance, a series beginning in 2001 and developed by Snowblind Studios.
Tuque Games’ creative director Jeffrey Hattem admitted in an interview with IGN that the connection to the earlier game is in name only, and claims that the game has evolved beyond being another Diablo-style clone. Hattem states that the original design “wasn’t taking the characters… and rendering them to the level of fidelity that I wanted as a player.”
The official synopsis for the game boasts that it will feature “real-time combat,” “dynamic co-op gameplay,” and “iconic monsters from the world of Dungeons & Dragons.”
The game is now available for pre-order at select retailers for $39.99 (USD). A Digital Deluxe Edition is also available for $59.99 (USD), which includes the upcoming expansion Echoes of the Blood War and an exclusive Lich weapon set. In addition, all pre-orders will received a special Beholder weapon on the day of launch.
