Nintendo officially announced they have partnered with PlayVS to make Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Splatoon 2, competitive games for participating high school varsity athletics.
Students around the world will be able to compete in league formats, team play, and more once the season starts on September 20 for the Fall 2021-22 season. PlayVS and Nintendo will also provide select schools that qualify with Nintendo Switches and 3000 schools will receive Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or Splatoon 2. They’ll also get the 12-month subscription for Nintendo Online.

PlayVS has a partnership with the National Federation Of State High School Association Network. They make eSports a varsity sport so that students have a chance to earn varsity letters and state championships. It also requires for leagues to be form, have eligible requirements for students, and coaches to help train and be at the competitions.
They partnered with some of the biggest gaming publishers such as Valve, Epic Games, and Activision Blizzard.
This is exciting news for young gamers who want to start a career in eSports. No experience is needed to join a team if the school is part of PlayVS so everyone can have the chance to learn what it takes to be a eSports player.
