Rumors always travel quickly, even more so since the dawn of the internet. It’s more important than ever to scrutinize the sources whenever too-good-to-be-true news make headlines.
What’s got people excited these days? Data miners have scoured Animal Crossing: New Horizons (again) and noticed that the in-game code doubled in size at the southern end of the island. Many sources speculate that Nintendo is likely working on some form of map expansion.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons celebrated its one year anniversary on March 20th. Since its release, there have been many modest updates like seasonal events. It’s no wonder some hypothesize over what the data miners discovered.
Oddly enough, I stumbled upon a similar rumor last year. Fully acknowledging that it was rumor-only at the time, animalcrossingworld.com reported that data miners discovered potential content updates, such as the return of the trickster kitsune, Crazy Redd, and additional features in the museum. Even Polygon mentioned it in one of their articles just days before Nintendo’s announcement of an update!
Believe it or not, Redd joined the game and the museum received an expansion in April 2020.
Does this mean the current rumor is true? Absolutely not; however, since this isn’t the first time data miners have unearthed updates to Animal Crossing: New Horizons prior to release, I find this announcement to be thought-provoking.
When all’s said and done, no one has the true answer as to what’s going on in those files. Nintendo has not addressed this; therefore, it’s important to take these headlines with a grain of salt.
