The latest installment in the Dark Pictures Anthology has a new trailer and a solid release date. Publisher Bandai Namco confirmed during their panel on Thursday’s Summer Game Fest that House of Ashes will arrive on October 22, 2021 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC.
Physical versions of the horror title can currently be pre-ordered on the game’s official website. A special “Pazuzu Edition” is also available, which includes a 10cm “underworld creature figurine,” as well as exclusive stickers, art print, a metal “eclipse” pin, and early access to the “curator’s cut” DLC. All of this is available for $59.99 USD, as opposed to the standard edition which will run you $29.99 USD.
The synopsis for the game is that Special Forces searching for weapons of mass destruction towards the end of the Iraq War stumble upon a buried temple which houses an ancient terror. In order to navigate the horrifying labyrinth, human foes that have been locked in war for years will have to band together in order to survive.
Developer Supermassive Games released Man of Medan, the first entry of the Dark Pictures Anthology, in August, 2019, and followed that with Little Hope in October, 2020. The series is horror-themed interactive drama, in which players make decisions for their characters and then watch these choices play out.
