Nintendo opened their recent Direct with a mischievous reveal of the latest character to join the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster, toying with viewers expecting a Zelda game reveal, only to show Kozuya tossing Smash fighters into a volcano. With just a single spot left in the Fighters’ Pass, fans hoping to see their favorite character included in the mega-hit franchise simply don’t have more opportunities. It’s now or never.
For today’s Boss Rush Banter, we thought we’d ask you which character you’re hoping will get the legendary invite. Here’s a few that we’re pondering:
E.M.M.I., Metroid Dread: With the 35th anniversary of Metroid and the much celebrated E3 announcement of Metroid Dread, now would be the perfect opportunity to name E.M.M.I as the final selection for the Fighters’ Pass 2. The powerful robotic entity created a lot of buzz as it hunted down Samus in the trailers and gameplay demonstrations. With only Ridley and Samus representing the iconic Nintendo franchise in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, why not add a third?
Master Chief, Halo: One of the most iconic characters in all of gaming, Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 would be an epic final addition to Smash Bros. He’s been the face of Xbox for two decades–and come on! All that collaboration between Xbox and Nintendo, the strange appearances of the Switch in Microsoft press conferences–it’s got to mean something, right? RIGHT?!
Waluigi, Mario Tennis: First created to be Luigi’s rival in doubles competitions in Mario Tennis, Waluigi has long been a fan favorite. The cunning, self-pitying character has a cult-like following and has been a long shot for inclusion into Smash Bros. Nevertheless, a vocal minority has pushed hard for Luigi’s arch-rival to get the last invitation.
