Cyberpunk 2077 Returns to PlayStation Store on June 21st

2–3 minutes

CD Projekt RED has announced today that on June 21st Cyberpunk 2077 will be returning to the PlayStation Store (more than six months after its removal). The PlayStation 4 version of the game was removed from the PlayStation Store after reports of the game’s performance started to pour in, noting that gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077 was problematic on the base version of the PS4, and even less than desirable on the PS4 Pro.

The news came via a regulatory disclosure by Cyberpunk 2077’s developer, CD Projekt, the parent company of CD Projekt RED saying Sony had agreed to reinstate the game. CD Projekt executives explained that they frequently updated Sony on fixes for the game’s bugs and performance issues since the title was pulled from the store on December 17th, 2020.

Sony confirmed in a statement to Polygon.com that Cyberpunk 2077 will return to the PlayStation Store. It also cautioned users against playing the game on a base PlayStation 4 until CD Projekt RED fixes some more issues.

“SIE can confirm that Cyberpunk 2077 will be re-listed on PlayStation Store starting June 21, 2021,” a Sony spokesperson said in an email. “Users will continue to experience performance issues with the PS4 edition, while CD Projekt RED continues to improve stability across all platforms. Sony Interactive Entertainment recommends playing the title on PS4 Pro or PS5 for the best experience.”

CD Projekt RED, the company responsible for developing Cyberpunk 2077, has not made any further comment about Cyberpunk 2077‘s return, so there are no current details on bug fixes or other updates the new version will have undergone when it returns. The studio had released a number of patches for console, PC, and Google Stadia editions.

Cyberpunk 2077 was released last December following nearly a decade of development. Severe technical problems plagued nearly all versions of the game resulting in the game struggling on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. Refunds were offered from both Microsoft and Sony to dissatisfied customers. Sony subsequently pulled the game from its storefront, and Microsoft would add a warning label for the Xbox One version on the Xbox store. Console owners are still able to buy physical discs, but CD Projekt has said that the digital versions absence may have slowed down sales on Xbox and PC as well as PlayStation.
