Cold Iron Studios has released a new trailer and announced a release date of August 24 for the game formerly called Aliens: Fireteam. The newly titled Aliens: Fireteam Elite is now available for pre-order and will include a purchase bonus for those who pay for a reserved copy. No explanation has been given for the name change, but details about the pre-order bonus have been announced.
The pre-order bonus is called “The Hardened Marine Pack” and includes weapon skins and decals, a Chestbuster Taunt Emote, and a Bandana Accessory. These bonuses are consistent with the game developers’ philosophy of maximizing player customization, fitting well with that design theory while also giving a nostalgic nod to the 1986 film that inspired the game.
Additionally, the game will have a two tier purchasing option: the Standard Edition and the Deluxe Edition. The latter includes “the Endeavor Pass + Endeavor Veteran Pack,” essentially granting players additional customization options and all future DLC. The story for Aliens: Fireteam Elite takes place 23 years after the original Alien trilogy; colonization has spread across space and Xenomorph outbreaks are an accepted occurrence, though uncommon. As colonial marines stationed aboard UAS Endeavor, it’s your team’s job to deal with these infestations. Cold Iron Studios describes the gameplay as “a cooperative third-person survival shooter that drops your fireteam of hardened marines into a desperate fight to contain the evolving Xenomorph threat.”
