Boss Rush Banter: Which Mario Character Should Get a LEGO Set Next?

2–3 minutes

In August of last year, Nintendo released their collaboration with LEGO with the hotly anticipated Super Mario: Adventures with Mario Starter Course. The LEGO set brought the magic of Mario to life, allowing you to take a computerized and LEGO-ized version of Mario through any level you create. Starting at the iconic green warp pipe, you have 60 seconds to jump, stomp and “wahoo!” your way through the course, collecting as many coins as you can and reaching the flagpole before time’s up. The LEGO line includes various sets with all of the enemies and terrains you’d expect from a classic Mario game and is genuinely a joy to play with.

A year after its launch, LEGO and Nintendo just released an expansion pack starring Mario’s taller and more timid brother, Luigi. With the expansion pack comes the introduction of multiplayer–you can now compete with friends through courses of your own making. You can either help each other out or see who can collect the most coins in the allotted time, bringing to life more of the interaction and chaotic fun the video game series is known for. With the debut of the Adventures with Luigi Starter Course, the obvious next question is which Mario character should get a LEGO set next?

In the various expansion packs, we’ve seen Goombas, Cheep Cheeps, Bullet Bills, Yoshi, Bowser Jr., and the King of Koopas himself, Bowser. But each of those characters is just a challenge to overcome before you reach your goal, not a playable character themselves. Should Nintendo and Lego continue this fruitful partnership, it’s a no-brainer that they would include more characters you can play as. Maybe they will create a Princess Peach starter course that utilizes some of her unique skills shown throughout the video games–perhaps she has the ability to float for longer or gets less damage when she gets hit.

Personally, I’d love to see a Wario expansion pack that truly introduces competitive play by allowing him to steal coins from other players. Any time Waluigi gets in the spotlight is a good time, so an expansion set with him would be a treat as well. With a series as long-standing and with as many characters as the Super Mario series, the options are nearly limitless. Which Mario character do you want to see Nintendo and LEGO add to their ever-growing line of toys-to-life bricks? Sound off in the comments below and let us know!
