Boss Rush Banter: In Which Video Game World Would You Most Want to Spend the Holidays?

With Thanksgiving officially in the books, the 2021 holiday season is in full swing. Folks from a variety of backgrounds and traditions celebrate during this time of the year; and while travelling is common as families come together, the pandemic has made that more challenging. So for today’s Boss Rush Banter, I thought it worth getting creative with the holiday travel ideas. If you could spend the holiday season in any video game world, which one would you choose?

Having been playing a lot of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, it’s hard not to imagine the fun of spending the holidays strolling through the forests, fields, and charming cities of the Sinnoh Region. One of the things I love about this time of year is the traditions, from decorating to gatherings with loved ones. A holiday season that involves Pokémon in the yearly traditions seems too good to pass up.

Another video game world that I’d love to visit for the holiday season is the kingdom of Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The kingdom offers mountain resorts with ski slopes in the Hebra Region, where visitors could drink hot chocolate and exchange gifts in the rustic cabins; warm getaways in the Gerudo Desert, where visitors could enjoy the heat and perhaps some impressive light shows given the Gerudo proficiency with electricity; and finally, Hyrule Castle itself (after Link and Zelda restore order of course!), where visitors could enjoy a more medieval twist to the holiday season. Hyrule’s diversity would also offer a rich variety of activities and traditions in which to partake. Hyrule certainly has to be high on the list of top destinations.

Sticking with the Nintendo theme, I’d be remiss if I didn’t talk about the world of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The game is practically built around holidays and celebrations. I think if I was pressed, I’d probably have to give this as my final answer. There’s just so much joy to be had–hiking, fishing, music, and cooking–an island full of lovable, adorable friends to celebrate the occasion. When I think of the holidays, more than anything I want a time of peace and joy, a moment to feel good about community, a chance to pause the chaos of the world that is so present all year long. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is exactly what I’d want for the holidays.

Tell us what you think? In which video game world would you spend the holiday season? Share your response below or join the conversation on Boss Rush Discord!

I think I’d also go with my island on Animal Crossing New Horizons! That would be my safe place. A more adventurous gaming world to visit would be Windfall Island in The Wind Waker. I feel like the locals would know how to have a good time and decorate the island with various festive statues, etc. Awesome post! 😀

Love it! Windfall Island is a great second choice too. Thank you for the response!
