Boss Rush Banter: Which Marvel Character Should Amy Hennig and Skydance Center Their New Game Around?

2–3 minutes

Amy Hennig is well known around video game circles; she is the writer and director of the first three games in the Uncharted series. That is quite the solid pedigree. Back in 2019, it was announced that Hennig was working on a new AAA story-driven game with Skydance Media, but not much more was released about the upcoming game. Well, buckle up Marvel fans, because it was just announced that the game they are working on is based on a Marvel character. Marvel has seen a great run of superhero games in the past few years with Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales releasing for the PS4 and PS5, as well as the just recently released Guardians of the Galaxy. There was also a not widely as loved Avengers game; not to mention the upcoming solo game Wolverine as well as the sequel Spider-Man 2. It is a great time to be a Marvel fan. Which brings us to the question of the day: which Marvel superhero should the upcoming game by Hennig and Skydance Media focus on?

There are so many options here. Do they go with a character who has already had a role to play in recent games and has been the focus of the MCU for the past ten years, such as Iron Man or Captain America? Or do they go with a hero that only hardcore comic book fans know of and deserve their moment in the sun?

In my opinion, if they want to make a splash with this game, they need to go with a character that has not had a featured role in a recent video game or one that is too similar to their play style. I’ve already talked about Iron Man and Captain America, who both are main characters in the recently released Avengers game. Thor had a part to play in that game as well, but you also have to consider that in the most recent God of War game, Kratos wielded a giant axe that acted very similarly to Thor’s trusty hammer. Not to mention the fact that the sequel to that game will feature Thor, Loki and other Norse gods.

No, this needs to be a character that people know and love, but has not had an recent game in a while, or ever. You also have to consider what Hennig is known for; particularly the Uncharted series. Those games are known for being narrative-driven action-adventure games with heart-stopping action pieces that rival what we usually see on film. They are also known to have a lot of humor and heart. When you put all of those pieces together, it narrows the playing field quite a bit.

Or they could pull something completely out of left field and propel a d-list superhero to the spotlight. Really, the options are limitless. So, which superhero deserves the solo-game Amy Hennig treatment? Let us know down in the comments or continue the discussion in our Discord!
