Over the last few weeks, we’ve heard that The Xbox Series S has outperformed the Xbox Series X in several key markets for Microsoft. Now it seems those reports have been amplified over Black Friday as early reports say the little white box has outsold all other consoles over Thanksgiving weekend.
According to the Adobe Digital Economy Index, the Xbox Series S outsold the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and the Nintendo Switch OLED model due to being “readily available” online and in store at select retailers like Best Buy and GameStop. Despite the previously mentioned consoles being the must-have consoles this holiday, the chip shortages mixed with the high demand seem to be working in favor of the Series S.
The Xbox Series consoles have sold and estimated 6.7 million consoles combined as of September, well ahead of the Xbox One at this point in its life cycle, though trailing the PlayStation 5 by about 4 million units.
My Take
The Xbox Series S console is a stellar machine, especially if you don’t care about 4K resolution or physical discs. It has all of the perks of its big brother including faster load times, frame rate boosts on backwards compatible titles, auto HDR, and graphical upscaling up to 1440p depending on the game. I use this console in my office to capture game footage, and I absolutely love it. It’s definitely worth looking at if you’re looking for a cheaper option for next gen, or if PlayStation 5 or Nintendo Switch are your primary consoles and you’re looking to play some of Microsoft’s exclusives like Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, or Gears 5.
