Get ready fighters, as the World’s Premier Solo Esports Team, Panda Global, has officially partnered with Nintendo of America to launch the officially licensed Super Smash Bros. championship circuit for 2022. This will be the first time Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Super Smash Bros Melee will have competitors enter and showcase their fighting skills against each other. While details are still scarce at the moment, it’s a surprising business move for both parties.
Since Super Smash Bros. titles have been allowed in EVO tournaments for the past years, they only were played by random gamers from around the world. Since Sony purchased Evo Championship last year, the series seems to be removed from the line up, which was used to gain a tremendous viewership from online watchers.
Gamers who’ve tried to have their own paid tournaments while using illegal tools to modify some of the Smash games have been met with cease and desist orders from Nintendo of Japan. This caused ire from the Smash community. With this news being revealed today, there might be a possible Smash tournament where other eSport teams can take part in Super Smash Bros. Melee. The game may finally allow competitors around the world to compete for a Melee Championship in a legal manner.
As of now, it’s great to see that Nintendo and the Smash community may come together and build a safe and competitive space that fans around the world can watch and enjoy.
