The Battlefield franchise has had a lot of ups and downs since its inception in 2002. The recent release was no different as Battlefield 2042 has had a plethora of issues plaguing its matches.
EA has decided to shake things up and is not only committed to fixing Battlefield 2042, but the series as a whole. In a huge report from GameSpot, Respawn’s Vince Zampella, who currently runs the studio, APEX Legends, and their other projects, will now lead the Battlefield franchise.

EA’s COO Laura Miele stated in an official press release that Zampella “creates culture-defining entertainment that resonates beyond games.”
“He creates culture-defining entertainment that resonates beyond games. We are bringing one of the most influential and talented individuals in entertainment to a franchise that is ready to be unleashed into the modern era of gaming. It’s an extraordinary inflection point in game history. His ability to lead studios and bring developers together so they can create world-class experiences is unmatched. I believe the structure, process, and vision he brings will enable Battlefield to excel like never before. No one knows shooters and live services better than Vince.”

On top of Zampella taking over the franchise, EA has also revealed that Marcus Lehto, the former Halo designer, who opened his own studio, is in charge of “building a new development team in Seattle focused on injecting more storytelling into the Battlefield universe.” On top of that, EA studio Ripple Effect will also be creating a new experience within the franchise, though the details on that project have been scarce. In the short term, both of these teams and DICE proper will be working to update Battlefield 2042 and create better experiences in upcoming seasons and beyond.
My Take
Battlefield has always been an enticing franchise for those who want something other than Call of Duty in the military shooter space. It’s class based combat and hero moment gameplay really sets it apart from its rival. With all of this leadership firepower, the future of Battlefield looks bright and I am really looking forward to see what’s in store for this franchise.
