Though it seems the studio is far from its glory days, BioWare is still widely regarded as using its unique conversation systems to create compelling stories in some of the most interesting worlds in video games. Arguably the most iconic of these is Mass Effect, the galaxy-spanning saga of Commander Shepard and civilization’s battle against the reapers.
In December 2020 at Geoff Keighley’s Game Awards, BioWare revealed that, alongside the next Dragon Age, they are indeed developing a new game in the Mass Effect universe. In a cinematic trailer, after flying through space debris and lowering down on a snowy planet, a cloaked figure revealed to be original trilogy costar Liara T’Soni bent down over some wreckage, wiping snow off of an N7 logo. Many fans believe she is looking for Shepard after the events of Mass Effect 3.
BioWare revealed a new poster, which you can see in the above tweet, on N7 Day for the next Mass Effect. Although the poster is really cool, it was recently revealed by Studio General Manager Gary McKay that art has five hidden secrets.
“If you’re curious about Mass Effect, I’d encourage you to take a look at the poster we released on N7 Day. If you look closely, there are a handful of hidden treats; by my count, there are at least five surprises, all of which point to an amazing future in the Mass Effect universe.”
Gary McKay, Studio General Manager, BioWare
Though we don’t have any information or a release date for the next Mass Effect, it is extremely exciting to see the return of the original trilogy’s cast. Liara is my personal favorite character in that universe, so it was a welcome site for me. McKay highlighted in his update that the feedback for the game “has been insanely positive”, enthusing that its great reception “really underscores the value of striving for excellence and quality in every element of a game.”
Mass Effect Legendary Edition was recently added to Xbox Game Pass and Mass Effect Andromeda is already available on the service as well as EA Play. Are you excited for a new Mass Effect game? What do you want in this sequel? Let us know in on Discord and Facebook Group!
