Zynga to be Acquired by Take-Two in Biggest Game Company Acquisition to Date

On January 10, 2022, Take-Two Interactive, a large American video game company that owns Rockstar Games and 2K, announced it was purchasing Zynga, another large American game company. Zynga is well known for its social games, such as FarmVille and Words with Friends, and is the company behind the upcoming Star Wars: Hunters.

Zynga itself is no stranger to company acquisitions. Along with many other purchases before and after, in 2020 Zynga acquired Turkey based company Peak, makers of the lucrative mobile games Toy Blast and Toon Blast.

Take-Two Interactive’s acquisition of Zynga is valued at roughly $12.7 billion, and believed to be the largest video game company purchase to date. Mobile gaming is a big business. According to Sensor Tower and the NPD Group, mobile games experienced at least nine consecutive months where US consumers spent over $2 billion in that space.
