Bungie has been very secretive about the story behind their upcoming Destiny expansion, The Witch Queen. Savathun is a character that has been circulating in the lore since the very beginning, becoming more and more important as the story has moved forward. Now, players will finally come face to face with the terrifying being as she has learned how to harness the Light and create her own Hive Guardian army.
This week, Bungie released a brand new trailer, entitled Savathun’s Throne World, sending Guardians deeper into the depths of the new zone. What made this trailer stand out among recent ones however, is that the trailer teases the zone is ever changing, as it is an extension of her mind. Glitches and changes in the geometry of the environment, stances of the statues, and location lighting seem to change in real time, making the Throne World even more terrifying than even Oryx’s Dreadnaught from The Taken King. The Throne World even includes a massive statue of The Taken King fighting Akka.
A twisted wonderland of corruption and splendor, Savathûn’s Throne World plays host to a fragile balance of terrifying power. From the foundation of her glistening palace to the gnarled roots in the swamp, all that she hides can be found here. Seek the truth and learn that in this place, mystery makes its home in both the Darkness and the Light.
Destiny 2: The Witch Queen, Synopsis of The Throne World

Erie quotes can be heard throughout the trailer too, including this terrifying one from Savathun herself.
“Tell me, oh honored guest. Why would you want to escape? This Throne World is indistinguishable from my own mind, Guardian. Every step taken, every bullet fired, I keep and count them all. It’s not too late to turn around.”
