Developer Techland recently disclosed via social media that gamers will spend nearly 500 total hours to 100% their upcoming open world survival game Dying Light 2. This, according to them, is comparitively the amount of time it would take for someone to walk from Warsaw, Poland to Madrid, Spain.
The statement initially concerned many gamers, making them fear that the game would become too much of a time commitment, prompting the developer to release a clarification that the average gamer certainly would not devote 500 hours to the title.
“Note: It’s about 100% competition rate, most of the players who are in for story and side quests will be able to complete the game quicker, it will still be a solid experience though!”
“Update: 500 hours is related to maxing out the game – finishing all the quests, endings, and exploring every part of the world, but a regular player should finish the story + side quests and do quite a lot of exploring in less than 100 hours, so don’t worry!”
While 500 hours is definitely a lot of time, it’s not unheard of for a single player game; other open world titles such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Red Dead Redemption 2 have vast worlds packed with details, side adventures, and other ways to get the most bang for your buck.
Still, it’s unknown how close to 100% players will need to get to satisfy all achievements/trophies, a big selling point for many gamers.
Regardless, players can expect to spend a good chunk of their time in Dying Light 2’s world when it releases on February 4 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
