In the recent Nintendo Direct, we learned that Nintendo is releasing Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, a title that serves both as a sequel to the previous Fire Emblem Warriors as well as Fire Emblem Three Houses this June. However, it seems that it may not be the only Fire Emblem title we get this year. Emily Rogers, a notable industry – specifically Nintendo – insider has suggested that a proper entry to the popular strategy franchise is also on the way, coming out as early as October.
In a quote relayed by Video Games Chronicle, she stated on Famiboards.com:
”Will it be an October 2022 release or an early 2023 release (February/March)? I’ve mentioned before that this game is nearly finished with its development. IS has had over 3+ years to develop this game, and they received assistance from a support studio.
“Let’s rewind the clock back to the year 2017. During that year, Nintendo released TWO Fire Emblem games: Fire Emblem Warriors and Fire Emblem Echoes. Who says history can’t repeat itself again?””

While we don’t know the nature of the game itself, Nintendo seems to be repeating their launch year schedule, so two Fire Emblem games is not out of the question in one year. Fire Emblem Three Houses was a massive success and their mobile outing, Fire Emblem Heroes, has generated over $1 billion in revenue in less that 3 years.
My Take
On an old episode of Nintendo Pow Block (when Edward and I were still talking about 3DS and if games would continue past 2018) we heard an early rumor of a pirate themed Fire Emblem and that it would be a mix of Awakening and Shadows of Valentia. I personally would love a pirate themed Fire Emblem. It fits within the style while also giving it a fresh look. You could also upgrade your ship and even add a fortress takeover element to it, allowing you to recruit new characters.
