Last week, WB Games and PlayStation showed off a 22 minute State of Play of Hogwarts Legacy, the Avalanche developed single player action RPG set in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Serving as a prequel set during the 1800’s, players will take on the role of a new student at the famed school of Witchcraft and Wizardry who has the special ability to unlock forgotten magic. Players will attend classes, make friends, see iconic locations from the films and books, and choose their own adventure while also following the main story, including a goblin rebellion and dark magic.
This week, however, in a rather low key announcement via a press release, it was revealed that Avalanche will also be bringing the game to Nintendo Switch natively in both digital and physical forms. Though a Tweet from community manager Chandler Wood says they have no information to share on this particular version at this time, Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, and all other major retailers have physical editions listed for preorder alongside Xbox, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
My Take
Though I was always intrigued by the idea of Hogwarts Legacy, the State of Play really solidified my excitement for the game, even moving it up into my most anticipated games list for the year. The Wizarding World is such a wonderful world rich with lore, iconic locations, and incredible charm. I know there is an incredible amount of controversy around series creator JK Rowling, but for me, whether you are a fan of hers or not, this world deserves to shine outside of its creator. I am also really intrigued by the Switch release of this game and I will be getting on that platform to share with everyone on Nintendo Pow Block.
