Bethesda Softworks announced via Twitter today that their two upcoming games Redfall and Starfield will be delayed until the first half of 2023. Both games were previously scheduled to launch later this year.
Starfield has been in the works for quite sometime, initially being unveiled during E3 2018, with a first look trailer arriving at E3 2021. The game is the first new intellectual property developed by Bethesda in more than twenty-five years, and is said to share gameplay similar to the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series of games, but set in outer space.
Redfall is being developed by Arkane Studios (Dishonored, Deathloop), and premiered at E3 2021. The first-person shooter casts players as one of four unique survivors as they hunt down vampires and other fearsome monsters.
These delays are quite the blow to Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S brand of consoles, as they are among the most anticipated titles for the system, as well as some of the only exclusives that were scheduled to arrive this year.
Bethesda’s parent company, ZeniMax Media, was purchased by Microsoft in March 2021 for $7.5 billion USD, making them a part of Xbox Game Studios.
Hopefully with the delay the game’s will arrive much more polished than Bethesda has the reputation of developing, as many of their games, such as Skyrim and Fallout 4 have suffered from excessive glitches ever since launch.
