Boss Rush Banter: What’s the Hardest Machine You’ve Battled in Horizon: Forbidden West?

I’m about halfway through playing Horizon: Forbidden West, and I’m completely in love with the game. Though, if I’m being honest, my game is set to story mode so that I can enjoy my play-through since fighting isn’t my strong suit.

While some monsters came over into the new game, Forbidden West created a plethora of new machines. Which ones were the most difficult ones you faced? Here are my top three:

  1. Thunderjaw

This is also one of the contenders from Horizon Zero Dawn. With multiple weapons that do both melee and ranged damage, this machine is a force to be reckoned with. On one hand, I avoid them at all costs. On the other, they’re great for me to practice my aim (if I don’t die first that is).

They’re found throughout the map. Luckily, if you’ve unlocked the Tallneck for that area, you can usually spot them.

My advice?

Don’t go into a fight with these without arrows that do tear damage.

2. Shellsnapper

A new addition to the franchise, this large tortoise-like machine often sneaks up on you. It can mask itself and blend in with the surrounding area. If you don’t know what to look for, you might miss it until it spots you.

Shellsnappers can do melee damage, but it seems to prefer ranged attacks as well. It also can burrow underground and pop up to damage you.

3. Slitherfangs

The good news?

I’ve only run into two so far.

The bad news?

It’s one of the first machines you fight.

Essentially a ginormous python, Slitherfanges deal a ton of acidic damage to you. On top of that, they burrow like the Shellsnappers. They truly come out of nowhere, usually popping out of the ground.

I’m aware there are probably harder ones that await me in the second half of the game. Out of the three I listed, the Shellsnapper is probably my least favorite to face.
